Royal Pythons

Welcome to the first bit of my Snake room.  Here I will show you my ever growing collection of pets, mainly snakes. In this section I will highlight all of my pets and my collection of royal pythons. Please have a look through and let me know what you think by leaving a comment, and also have a look at my other pets in the other pages of this blog.

Royal Pythons:

I first began to keep royal pythons at the beginning of 2011, and my love for them has continued to grow, along with the size of animals that I own.  I think that it has to be the large variety of morphs available, as well as their manageable size that attracted me to this species.  Any way, time for some photos of the gang, please excuse the lame names my other half helped to name them.......honest.

Ruby:
Ruby is a CB10 female royal python.  She was purchased in 2011 and was my first royal python.  To me she is what a 'normal' ball python should look like.  She is a good size at just under 2kg and is still growing.  She has a very calm and relaxed attitude and is an absolute dustbin of a snake.  Ruby was the first royal that I got a clutch from in the 2013 breeding season, when she laid 6 eggs, of which 5 were viable.  She was paired with 'bumbeel' and will be paired with him once again in the 2014 season.  Fingers crossed for another nice clutch this season providing some more pastels, spiders, normal and bees, just like last year.

Sally:
Sally is my CB10 DH albino pied female, and I sure do hope that her genetics prove out.  I Purchased her in the middle of 2011 when I was after any female to buy and quite frankly was slightly naïve.  This is because I feel I may have been taken to the cleaners due to my eagerness, but that is a lesson learned if that is the case.  Even if her genetics do not prove out I cannot wait to see what hatches from her clutches this year as she was paired with my male fire het pied 'Burtie'. Once again she is around the 2kg mark and is an absolute machine when she feeds.  She laid a clutch of 6 eggs, again 5 being viable and has regained her weight and more since laying her clutch.  Fingers crossed for her genetics, and hopefully they will prove out so I can produce some pied combos and fires of my own in the future.

Sue:

I purchased Sue in mid 2013 and I am glad I did.  Sue is a CB10 female het albino, and what a unit she is, tipping the scales at just over the 2kg mark and still pounding the rats whenever she can.  The 2 hour car journey was definitely worth it.  She was paired with a pinstripe at the previous owners however did not lay a clutch.  I will be looking to pair her with 'Alvin' my male albino.  She has locked up with Alvin twice already so fingers crossed for the season ahead, and to hopefully producing some albinos and het albinos of my own.

Amber:
Amber is the latest addition to my royal python collection.  She is a CB11 female lesser, as she absolutely glows.  She is just under 1.4kg but is eating well so should be ready for the 2014 season.  If she does get some weight on she will be paired with 'Bumbeel' in the shot to try and hit the queen bee and lesser pastel morphs which will be held back.  Hopefully She continues to gain weight and has a good season this year as I love working with the lesser gene, however if she is not ready for this year its not the end of the world...... I hope.

Penny:
Penny is the youngest and smallest of my royal pythons, she is a CB12 female pinstripe and weighing in at 743g.  Although she is yet to reach breeding weight I do have plans for her in the future, but I will keep that a secret for now.  She is feeding well and should be up to weight ready for the 2014/15 season.  I cannot wait to start seeing her reach the 1.5kg mark as I feel she will really glow at this weight.  Fingers crossed she stays healthy for me until then.

Alvin:
Alvin is my male albino ball python and is an early CB13.  I picked him up from a reptile show in Doncaster, that was a really great show especially since I picked Alvin up.  He has a really high contrast between his white and yellow, and is getting brighter with each shed. He also loves a rat when he gets the chance.  As mentioned earlier he has been paired up with Sue a couple of times already this season, so fingers crossed for some baby albinos and het albinos this coming season.

Burtie:

Burtie is my male CB11 fire het pied male.  I bought Burtie at the same time and off the same person as I purchased Sally from, once again I am slightly dubious of his genetics.  Hopefully he will prove out but once again I am happy if not as I am hoping for a female fire to hold back for a future breeding season.  He can be slightly fussy with his foods around the breeding season and when in shed, but other than that he feeds fine.  Fingers crossed for both his and Ruby's genetics in order to hit the pyro pied, watch this space.

Bumbeel:
Bumbeel was my first male ball python that I bought and a bumblebee was initially one of the ball python morphs that I wanted.  He is a CB11 and sired a clutch last season with Ruby.  He can be a bit fussy on food but I feel that I have no sussed his finicky ways.  Although he does carry the spider gene he very rarely demonstrates any sign of the wobble, occasionally when he is in hunt mode.  He will be paired with ruby again this year, as well as Amber.  Fingers crossed he sires more clutches for me in the future.

Petal:

Petal is a CB13 female pastel that I hatched out this year, and I have decided to hold her back for myself as she is just so bright, I mean unbelievably bright, like ridiculously bright, I hopeyou understand how bright she is now.  She was initially a force feeding snake and struggled even with that method, which I always hate doing but I then think I am just trying to help.  I feel the force feeding may have made me want to keep her a little bit more.  Any way she is now smashing her food and is just begun to eat rat fluffs, cannot wait until she reaches the 600-700g mark as she will just blow my mind.
